June 20, 1957 Dear Joshua, I can't make any very definite statement. As you know I am very happy here and hate the thought of making a change -- I mean hate the thought of the mechanics of change. However, I realize the great advantage of better facilities, perhaps, and better contacts -- chiefly with your group and with genuine biochemists. The chief issue, though, both from your point of view and mine, is whether I want to do more teaching, graduate or otherwise. So far as I can tell, my urge in this direction is negligible. I can't visit you next month because Jill and I have planned a very full vacation schedule beginning July 6. [END PAGE ONE] [BEGIN PAGE TWO] I suggest that we think about it on both sides during the summer and reach a decision in the fall. I certainly do not wish to say no at this time. I hope you and Esther have a profitable and pleasant stay in Australia. Sinc Al P.S. To give you one definite fact: my present salary is $9500.
