Dear Dr. Lederberg:

We are trying to find a better system than the Hemophilus
rainfluenzae system to study spermine metabolism and it appears that
a E. coli strain Kj W-6 (methionine requiring) would be quite
desirable since it shonld be unable to synthesize spermine.

Would you please send a culture as well as the E. coli strain Kio
and E. coli B so that we might have adequate controls for our experi-

ments. “Finally, if there are specific media or stock media require-

ments for the satisfactory growth and maintenance of these cultures,
I would appreciate your suggestions on these matters,
