Translation The Genetica Society of Israel February 17, 1960 Prof, E. Goldschmidt, Department of Zoology, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel Deer Prof. Goldschmidt, The Acting Committee of the Genetics Society of Israet met on February 12, 1960 and discussed the question of the meeting place for the next International Congress of Genetics. After extensive deliberationa we have decided that it seems appropriate to make every effort which could promote the choice of a country other than Germany for this Congress. We therefore apply to you as our delegate in the International Committee for Genetics Congresses with the request to act on our behalf. I submit to you, in the following, the text of the decision taken by our Acting Committee, in order to enable you to pass it on to the International Committee: "The Acting Committee of the Genetics Society of Israel deeply regrets the decision to hold the next International Congress of Genetics in Germany. The choice of Germany as a meeting place makes it impossible de facto, though not de jure, for many geneticists from varicus countries to attend this Congress. “Although we are aware that the protest of our delegation at Montreal, which was passed on through Prof. E. Goldschmidt was voted down by a majority, we apply to our representative to make our position known once again to the Fermanent International Committee for Genetic Congresses. “We hope that the International Committee will realize that a reconsideration of the Montreal decision is indicated at the present hour”. I hope that The International Committee will take our request into consideration, and that in view of the protest voiced also by geneticists from other countrice, the decision taken at Montreal may be reconsidered. Yours sincerely, (signed) J. Wahrman
