UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA LAWRENCE RADIATION LABORATORY P. O. BOX 808 LIVERMORE, CALIFORNIA 94551 January 6, 1970 Dr. D. J. Lederberg Dept. of Genetics Stanford University School of Medicine Stanford University Medical Center Stanford, California 94304 Dear Dr. Lederberg: I am enclosing a copy of a paper I presented in a symposium at the recent AAAS meeting in Boston. I am also enclosing a copy of a paper by Dr. Meyer, et al which I discuss in the section of my paper"Genetic Consequences of Radiation;" beginning on page 17. I feel that the results reported in the paper by Meyer are very significant to this whole problem. TI was appalled to discover that members of the International Commission on Radiological Protection such as Dr. Dunster and geneticists of the AEC's Division of Biology and Medicine were unaware of the study even though the original report appeared in 1967. This study would appear to support your statement in your recent article in the Chronicle that future studies would most likely show the effects of radiation to be worse than that presently assumed. I would appreciate your comments of this and my discussion of it in the AAAS report. Sincerely yours, Lhgther 2. Laid lew f Arthur R. Tamplin Bio-Medical Division ART: m1 Encls. as stated
