SEP 10 1962 THE LILLY RESEARCH LABORATORIES ELt LILLY AND COMPANY INDIANAPOLIS G,IND.,U. S.A. September 4, 1962 Dr. Joshue Lederberg, Chairman Department of Genetics School of Medicine Stanford University Stanford, California Dear Dr. Lederberg: You have probably heard at the institute of the encouraging results which Dr. Aronow has obtained with our 6-MP ribotide amidate in 6-MP resistant cells. Although I am aware tnat~much éonfirmation and rechecking is in order, I feel we should check this lead in other ways, too. Ma 249) To this end, I hope, as soon as feasible, to prepare again the corresponding thymidylic acid amidate, this time in the form of the ammonium salt. With your permission I would then like to send you a sample for assay in the thymine-less mutant you men- tioned as being available in your laboratory. At the same time, I wonder if it would be possible to obtain a culture of this strain for use here by our biologist, Dr. I. S. Johnson, to familiarize him in this area. He is also planning work with mouse leukemia resistant to 6-MP to test the 6-MP derivative in vivo. All I need is four hands instead of two. I hope you had a pleasant and useful trip this summer, I am looking forward to seeing you with other 5.I.M.B. members here in October. My regards go also to Mrs. Lederberg. Sincerely yours, ) 4 Koert Gerzoy oy Organic Chemical Division ba
