THE OBSERVATORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN November 20, 1959 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics Stanford University Stanford, California Dear Joshua: I can readily understand that your schedule for next spring is so busy that you cannot now take on another trip. However, I seize upon the second sentence in the second paragraph of your letter to suggest that if indeed another more important reason should bring you East at any time during the current academic year, it would be a simple matter for us to schedule a lecture by you on rather short notice. Our plans for satellite telescopes are still at a very early stage, and there would be very little we could send you of value. However, I shall be very glad to keep you informed as the plans develop. I might also suggest that Lyman Spitzer at Princeton and Fred Whipple at Smithsonian have been at the business much longer than we and would, I am sure, be glad to let you see what they have done. With best regards, I am Sincerely, Leo Goldberg LG : KW
