Dear Joshua,

It was nice indeed of you to write about Bob Wright.
All's well that ends well. Bob now seems to feel that he had
made a mistake in not coming here straight away, which he is
happy to correct, and we are very fortunate in enlisting his help
to initiate a project made possible by the generous gift of the
Rockefeller Foundation of radiation sourcesand other very
expensive equipment, What he will do then remains to be seen,
His appointment is all but formally fixed up and will take effect
towards the end of the year,

It was equally nice of you to say something of your
current interests. I hope that my young colleague, Rick Davern,
who is on his way back after three years first with Bonner, last
with Meselson — a really bright youngster — will have had an
opportunity to pay you a visit, and so will give us first—hand
news of a more detailed kind. When I passed last through
San Fransisco, I spent my usual week at Palo Alto and saw the
