UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY VIRUS LABORATORY August 4, 1959 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Professor of Genetics Stanford University Stanford Ualifornia Dear Doctor Lederberg: Thank you very much for your letter of July 29 and the provocative questions it provides. Since I am trying to clear up so that I can get away for a vacation, I shall not have the opportunity to read this with any care before I leave. Nevertheless, I think this might be an interesting thing to cogitate about upon the lake. I do not want to join in this activity with any presumptions or misconceptions. I think part of my expressed interest was related to back contamination on man and the need therefore for preparing epidemiological and long term observations of any exposed persons. Your comments about the Westex meeting is of a good deal of interest, but I don't see how I could possibly come in September even though it would be a great experience to attend the dedication. In the meantime I shall try, as I have said, to see if any ideas can be developed. [ ybewk _ * Live Lev fee.
