When recovered I found a great deal of work waiting for me. I also found a letter by Gorini (who proved a much more inflammable Italian than myself) and a letter by Bernie about his mediation and the settlement of the dispute. I was rather upset by Gorini's resentment at our paper, which I did not understand entiarely, except that we were too casual in mentioning his contribution. I was upset especially because I felt sympathy for Gorini and had invited him and his wife to Pavia. He will come,so I hope the emotional aspects are over. I am enclosing copy of Gorini's paper. There are quite a number of changes since the edition I saw, and he had withdrawn some of the statements he had on in- creasing degeneracy. I am sending him copy of the manu- script you sent me. Should any alterations directly concer- ning the issue be done in proofs, I think they should be agreed directly with him or Bernie to avoid further issues. Can you get me 150 reprints? We are trying to prepare for all the problems that our presumptive coming to Stanford next summer with Alba and Matthew can raise. I am convincing Alba to take up computer programming and we have started studying Balgol. We will be unable to know for certain until the last minute, but I look forward to hearing of the housing prospects. Yours, 4 ~ oy i, mee
