WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL MEDICINE BARNES AND WOHL HOSPITALS 600 SOUTH KINGSHIGHWAY ST. LOUIS 10, MISSOURI Oct. 13, 1959 Dear Josh, It would be dishonest on my part not to admit that I was pleased and flattered by your request for a dossier. Actually, I was also rather startled since I have not visualized myself a candidate for a chair in medicine. My impression is that a chair of this type involves an immense load of administrative, teaching and patient-care responsibilities. In the case of those chairmen (in medicine) I know, the magnitude of these combined responsibilities is such as to be incompatible with intense participation in an active research program. The latter course is one from which I hope not to deviate. In spite of these misgivings, the information which you request is enclosed. I am looking forward to seeing you, Arthur and Mel and other friends at Stanford in January. With kindest regards, I am, Sincerely, /, Je bit fete
