My dear Joshua,

All the time since I have been back I have been
gather busy,mostly on silly duties,or on visitors. But,although
some time haw now clapsed, I have a most vivid recollection of
the two very pleasant days at Midjison ;thamks to you and Esther,
very much,for everything. I have not had any chance sofar to .
use your pretty pale blue swetter.The temperature hes been resanee
continuously since I left Madison; it reached a peak,quite unu-
suahk for us,of 103° (F.) two days ago. We had since a couple of
storms that have made life more tolerable.

It seems more and more likely that I will be in
Pavia next year,which should give me more opportunities,and a
more suitable environment,for research. But,as part of the pro-
gramme depends on financial means ,which must be given by the
Government,and the law has nat yet been approved,it &% not yet
quite clear what will be the date for the beginning. Meanwhile <
have to try and avoid becoming a lame duck here.

I am enclosing a curricultm vitae.If anything is
to be mxpanded,please let me know. The list of publications has
to be ietyped;my typist is at the moment ili,and I will send a
copy to you as soon as possible. Numbers in the cu.riculum refer
to paper numbers in the list to be sent.

Under separate cover i,;have sent a map of ifilan.
Although it is the best available,it happens to have mistakes,at
least in the two places I have checked:i.e.my home,and working
place.I have corrected them,and sope that inspite of the inherent
ujreliability map of the map you will use it to plan a journey to

you leave for Australia?

One thing + shall be unable to do before you leave
is to let you know about my prospected visit next year .There is
one difficulty arising, I have to enquite more about at the Genoa
consulate (the liilan consulate is not competent in immigration
visas):it seems that if the whole family does not immigrate within
six months from tne immigration of the head of the family,the visa
xa losés validity(for them at least).This would be important, in
