Thanks for your August 10 letter.  I gather from it that Smith has already been hired and that he is at work.
I am sorry that Tener is not coming, but I have just heard from Kenner at Liverpool about a former student of Todd's who looks like an interesting possibility.  I have asked Kenner to get in touch with the men (Buchanan) at Newcastle on our behalf.
We had a wonderful time at Heron [...] and since I just gave my [...] lecture I can now enjoy the rest of the trip.  I am looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks, in the meanwhile don't become blue from [...].
