I am sorry that you will not be able to be in Turin next Octcber.

Exceptionally,the degree can be awarded "in absentia”, although
in general the presence of the candidate is required.

I suggest that you send a telegram to the Rettore of the University
on the day of the ceremony (October 13) apologizing for not being present.

It would be very nice if you come Torino in another occasion for
giving a lecture (as soon as possible) and we shall organize a special
ceremony for your doctorate.

Please let me know at your earliest convenience when you think you

will be able to visit us.

I will certainly send the telegram that you suggest. I am sorry
that I will not be able to come in October; but I hope it will hot
be impossible for me to accept the derree "in absentia",

It is a little difficult for me to travel extensively now (as I
have acquired a 4% year old son) but perhaps it will not be too lone
before we can all travel together, and I will certainly include Curdn
inoue itinerary when we do. hy wife Marguerite ( a pedietrician here)
is as fond of Itely as I am, and she also regrets that it has been
SO May many years since she revisited her godparents and childhood home

in the Limousin, end in Charente.
