Dear Joshua,

I realize that the letter of invitation sent to you by my colleagues
of the Department of Pediatrics came to you as a complete surprise.

As a matter of fact the Medical School of Torino has decided to
give you the "Iaurea in Medicina", honoris causae,.

I did not give you the announcement because the decision of the
Faculty must be approved by the Ministry of Education in Rome, Usually
this agreement is a formality, This time however, probably because of
the confusion stirred in Rome by the fightings about the new law on Uni-
versities, the Ministry has not yet answered.

However I do not see any reason why the approval should not be
obtained,

It is a general rule that the new doctors attend thf-cerimony, which
will be held next October, Tuesday 14. The Faculty is paying the living
expenses to you and possibly to your wife while in Torino, but no funds
for travel have been yet found, I have spoken however to Luca and he
thinks he can manage for that.

Personally I would be very happy and honoured to be your sponsor
and to see you in Torino as my "student".
