Dear Josh,
It has been almost two months since we saw you and Esther in Milan, and many things have happened in the interim.  We vacationed for 10 marvelous days in Greece during the Christmas-New Year period.  The hemophilia project is beginning to take shape as more cases come in and as Luca gets more ideas--we are preparing to do segregation analysis by computer.  I've had a fling at some 800,000 1960 Italian births looking for possible effects of sex linked recessive lethals on sex ratio, but found no relationships between maternal grandfather's age and sex ratio.  I have learned that N.I.H. granted me the Career Development Award which I applied for last summer.  Thank you very much for your support on this.  We've also learned that we're going to have another Cann next September--I hope we can bring him back duty-free.
With all these events and developments breaking in the last two months one thing has

has remained constant--my interest in spending another year with Luca.  During your visit you may remember that we talked about this possibility.  I wonder if you have spoken to Norm Kretchmer about my staying, and if so, what his reaction was.  If not, would you be willing to talk to Norm?  I would greatly appreciate any help form you in this direction.  Between receiving the Career Development Award and my talks with norm last Spring I feel under some obligation to return to Stanford next summer if he so desires.
I have spoken with Luca and he is quite willing to have me at Pavia for another year.  If I can get Norm's approval and some funds I am set.  Any ideas would be appreciated.
