Dear Dr. Ledergerg:

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is currently
supporting a study of the channels for transfer of information from
NASA supported research efforts into the biomedical field.

As part of this effort we are undertaking to survey a group of
aerospace research scientists doing work sponsored by NASA, and
who are working on, or have published papers on, projects which
hold particular significance in the biomedical field.

The object of this survey is twofold. It is first, an attempt to
evaluate the effectiveness of current scientific communication media
on the dissemination of important research results. Second, it is
intended to determine whether it is possible, or desirable, to devise
new or supplementary scientific communication procedures in order
to facilitate transfer of multi-disciplinary NASA-supported research
into biomedicine,

The results of such a study are extremely important since the
findings should be applicable not only to NASA-supported research
but could be extrapolated to the problem of interdisciplinary scientific
communication in general.

I would greatly appreciate your cooperation in filling out and
returning the enclosed questionnaire. As a scientist you realize
that the problem of selectivity has resulted in a small sample size
and the results of each questionnaire assume considerable importance,
