Dear Professor Lederberg,

Thank you for your letter making formal offer of an
assistanship in your department. I enclose a formal acceptance.

I had already made preliminary enquiries of the local U.S. Consul.
He informed me that one of the visa requirements would be a formal statement of
dollar support, including accomodation and compensation, for the duration of my
stay. I will find out whether your letter is sufficient for this purpose or
whether some further certification is required.

I believe it might be possible to obtain an allocation of dollars to
cover my first months. I will make enquiries, through my bankers, from the
Treasury.

I will let you know in due course of my travel arrangements. It is
probable that I will break my journey to visit some relatives in Connecticut.
I have made application to the U.S. Educational Commission in the U.K. for the
grant of a Fulbright Travel Allowance.
