us a very sketchy idea of what your people are doing, I
wonder if you have available a mutant of either K-12 or of
coli 122 that does not utilize galactose (or lactose),

The lactose negative mutant I had is not very viable, The
purpose of this is simply for screening for nonlysogenics,
