NEW YORK STATE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE CORNELL UNIVERSITY ITHACA, NEW YORK LABORATORY OF BACTERIOLOGY April 28, 1954 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics University of Wisconsin Madison, Wisconsin. Dear Josh & Esther: I feel I owe you people an apology for apparently running out on a dinner invitation last Wednesday at Oak Ridge. Unfortunately, I was sort of shanghaied by one of the people at the laboratory who was in the Washington A.E.C. office while I was there. I was to go over to their house and see a new baby just home from the hospital, have a drink, and they would deliver me back to the guest house. Arriving at their home I discovered they had Steaks and it became just a little bit difficult to get away. I am sorry I did not have a chance to talk with you more and I do apologize for running out on a tentative dinner engagement. I don't imagine you people will be at Pittsburgh, but if you are,I shall try to make amends. Very truly yours, Max R. Zelle Professor of Bacteriology MRZ: LP
