Dear Dr. Lederberg:

We are rather puzzled by some results which we have obtained
with the sexual recombination of streptomycin resistant forms of
E. coli. In data obtained in an attempt to determine whether
there are several loci are involved in the various grades of
streptomycin resistancey ‘here are a number of unexplainable
(ito us} discrepancies. “It has occurred to me that perhaps
you have already worked out this problem, If this is the case,
I would appreciate it if you wouid advise me to that effect as
I am looking for an excuse to abandon it, I wonder if you are
planning to attend the Biochemical Convention at Brookhaven
this month?
