Dr. Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics Stanford University Medical Center Stanford, California 94305 Dear Josh, Thanks very much for the cordial confirmation of your invitation to visit. February 18 is fine for me and I look forward eagerly to being with you and my other Stanford friends. About the seminar, there is this to be said: I expect, well before then, to get a paper on my current work into PNAS. I know this doesn't mean it will be read, but it does raise the question of whether it is fitting to give a seminar that would be largely repetition of a published paper. I hope I shall have by February more than will be in the PNAS paper; but one can't count on what hasn't yet happened. It would be fine for me if I could get at Stanford comments, criticisms and suggestions. The chance for that is perhaps best after an oral presentation--even if it is largely a rehash of a publication. But I leave the decision to you. I could of course let you know a month in advance whether I have made substantial progress beyond the published account. In a short note yesterday from Norm Horowitz, he told me a bit about his current involvement in Viking. What a privilege it will be to hear yours first hand! The whole thing is just marvellous. As ever, Tac T. M. fonneborn TMS :nla
