Dear Josh:

The result of your second and final ballot for Chairman of the
Genetics Section of the National Academy of Sciences was close. On
June 24, the deadline I had set, 41 votes were in and Giles was ahead
by a few votes. In view of the importance of the decision, I thought
it desirable to try to obtain by phone the votes of the remaining five
members of the section. All five cast votes and mailed them in for

the record. The final vote was 25 for Giles and 21 for Kaiser. Giles
took office as of July 1, 1976.

So please address all further communications to the chairman as
follows: Norman H. Giles, Calloway Professor of Genetics, Department

of Zoology, University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia 30602. ,He is at
present in South America, but will return July 8.
