BROADWAY 2-1506 BURTON A. WAISBREN, M. D. SUITE 33f BANKERS BUILDING 208 EAST WISCONSIN AVENUE MILWAUKEE 2, WISCONSIN *RACTICE LIMITED TO -NTERNAL MEDICINE March 29, 1952 JOshua Lederberg Associate Professor of Genetics University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture madison, Wisconsin Dear Dr. Lederperg: I want to thank you for your kindness on warch L5th in showing me your equipment and exchang- ing ideas. I am enclosing tue sensitivity to 8 antibiotics of the three strains you gave me. The fact that the W1177 is streptomycin resistant is of real importance ana iwight indicate a mode of action of streptomycin in preventing the absorption of wnat ever amino acid W1177 is deficient in. If you would be willing to send we your wnole series of amino acid deficient strains with the information as to what amino acids they are unable to synthesize I feel it would be worthwhile to ao the sensitivity tests on them. We will keep you informed in regard to our reconstitution experiments and hope in the future to have the privilege of seeing you often. Thank Miss Lively again for her patient help. You cooled me a bit on my single cell enthusiasm but I still hope to get the technique down well enough to start each experiment with single cells. Sincerely yours, OUR wh rrr burton A.
