UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATION DIVISION OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY BERKELEY 4, CALIFORNIA August 10, 1951 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Associate Professor of Genetics The University of Wisconsin 4adison, 6 Wisconsin Dear Dr. Lederberg: If you can give me some idea about how many coliforms I should send you from our collection I will be grateful. The organisms with which we are working now are mostly of the Escherichia coli group. I have so many of them (about 1000 cultures), 500 of which have been identified as to species grouping. I presume cultures from tris group would interest you the most but I have no idea of how many you want and I am hesitant to send you transplants of all of them unless I hear from you. Thanks ever so much for putting my name on your mailing list. Very truly yours, oA lghe RiVev Reese 4. Vaughn
