June 13, 1950. Dr. P. R. Edwards, Enteric Bacterlology Laboratory, Comaunicable Disease Center, Uv. S. Public Heal th Service, Chamblee, Georgia. Dear Dr. Edwrads: We have recently worked with a group of Salmonella typhimriua strains, received from Lilleengen, among which there are some which are almost cer- tainly showing genetic recombination like that of E. coli Kel2. We are pre- paring to do some serological work with these cultures. I am writing to ask your help in providing certain cultures needed to prepare the sera we are interested in. The cultures are as follows: 156 [1] bonariensis 6 paratyphi B, [2] ยง0-~ (2) newport i paratyphi A 36~ [2] cholerae suis (kunzendorf) 2 paratyphi A (durazzo) 87 senftenberg 60 typhi V 1 typhi-mrium ([IV, XII] I realize that repeated requests of this kind mst put you to some trouble, and wish to assure you of my appreciation for the help you gave given in the past. Yours sincerely, Joshua Lederberg
