THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE 1335 H STREET, WASHINGTON 38, O. C. November 20, 1947 BACTERIOLOGY, HYGIENE AND PREVENTIVE MEDICINE Dr. Josnua lederherg Department of Genetics College of Agriculture University of Wisconsin Madison 6, Wisconsin Dear Professor Lederberg: About three weeks ago I received your letter regarding coliform bacteria. I very sincerely regret that due first to the war and later to the pressure of administrative work, I have given up entirely all laboratory work and with it has gone my detailed knowledge of the field in which I was work- ing ten years ago. I very sincerely regret that I can not answer your question relative to the availability ofatemperature-sensitive strain of coliform bacteria. I do not believe I had this strain in my collection. I regret, also, that my stock of reprints of the review on "Coliform Bacteria" has been exhausted for some time. I suggest you might write to Dr. Charles A. Stuart, Department of Biology, Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Stuart and his colleagues have done an immense amount of work in this field, and he may be able to help you. Very truly yours, . any Dr. Leland W. Parr LP s AAH Professor of Bacteriology
