Dear Hutner:

I have besn wondering whether it would not be amising to do some genetic
work with Athiorhodaceae. The local strains are not toossatisfactory, aa they
take almost forever to grow up under technically suitable conditions, 1i.e.,
as aerobic single colonies on agar.

It was suggested that as you have been keeping cultures for some time
under sercbiec conditions, they might ba better adapted for my interest. Do
you have a Rhodospirillum rubrum that forms pigmented single colonies on
agar (which?) with reasonable celerity?

I remembsr you were a little disccuraged about your caper as deliverad
at the CSH mesting. The printed paper in the volume is a very creditable
joo, and should mote than conpensate for your inmediste discouragement.
