r ยป 21 December 1955. Botany School, Downing Street, Cambridge. BR Dear Dr Lederberg, I am working here under Dr Whitehouse on genetic recombination in Sreptomyces coelicolor. Although I have not yet published any results, my findings are essentially the same as those reported by Sermonti and Spada-Sermonti in Nature 176, 121. As far as I was aware, this was the only report of genetic recombination in Streptomyces, and so I was very interested to read in your review in J. Cell. and Comp. Phys. 45 the statement that "experiments with Streptomyces griseus have been indecisive owing to confusion with heterokaryotic interactions." I am wondering whether you are continuing work with Streptomyces, or if not, what sort of results you were obtaining and whether you are publishing any report of them. I should be most grateful to here from you on this topic. Yours sincerely,
