RESEARCH ASSOCIATESHIPS at the BIOLOGY DIVISION, OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LABORATORY Several appointments as Research Associates will be made for the year 1955-56 for work in the Biology Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. These appointments are designed to encourage the development of investigators in the basic fields of biology, biophysics, and biochemistry of interest to this Laboratory. Within the general program of the Division, the appointees will be given a large measure of independence to carry out investigations along the lines of their own choice. In general, the work will not be classified and publication will be in the open literature. Eligibility and Tenure Appointments will be limited to citizens of the United States who have recently obtained the Ph.D. degree in fundamental biology, biochemistry, or biophysics. The appointment will be for one year, but renewal may be recommended. The annual basic stipend is $4400. An additional allowance of $300 is made for a married fellow, plus an increment of $300 per child, to a maximum of $5300 annually. In exceptional circumstances special arrangements may be made (e.g. somewhat more mature and experienced applicant). Clearance More than 95 % of the work in the Division is unclassified but security clearance is required.
