The three volumes of the set, consisting of approximately 600 pazes each, will deal, respectively, with high energy radiation, ultraviolet, and visible light. The editorial committee which has been appointed for the volume on ultraviolet consists of Dr. John R. Loofbourow, Dr. Farrington Daniels, Dr. de W. Pollister, and Dr. L. J. Stadler. I am responsible for editing this volume and will also be editor~in-chief of all three volumes. It is planned to publish these volumes through the McGraw-Hill Book Company. The enclosed outline will give you an idea of the chapters planned; the list of authors will be announced as soon as acceptances are received. we would like very much for you to take over chapter X, "Bacteria", of this volume, It is tentatively planned to allot each author, whose chapter is longer than twenty pages, a sum of $100 to $150 for typing and other expenses, ie hope that the manuscripts will be in the hands of the chairman of the editorial committee by aporoximately November lst.
