August 14, 1953 Dear Professor, I am in need of advice and, after reading of your award as "the outstanding young bacteriologist of the country" I realized I could never find anyone better qualified to help me. I would like to know how you began your career, for I am interested in the same thing, and I would especially like to know what college courses helped you most.
