Dear Dr. Lederberg:

In answer to your most welcome letter, I am pleased
to reply that I am quite certain to accept the half-time
research assistantship when I am formally notified of the
award. Arrangement for a calendar year appointment be-
ginning in July will be unnecessary, since I see no reason
for commencing before September.

Regarding the stipend, I would like to know the
method in which it is paid, in order that I may arrange
my financial affairs. Also, since I have access to a
well equipped bacteriological laboratory at Brooklyn
College, are there any particular techniques or proced-
ures that you would deem advisable for me to become
proficient in using, in order to facilitute my orienta-
tion in your laboratory?

I wish to exvress my thanks for your cooperation
on this matter.
