March 20, 1950 Dr. Seymour Fogel Department of Biology Brooklyn College Brooklyn, New York Dear Seymour: I thought I might let you know informally the statis of the applications submitted here by some of your students I hope to take on Miss Fried as a research assistant in our bacterial genetics program and have notified her accordingly. Mr. Romano is stili under consideration for a position elsewhere in this department, but no definite conclusion has been reached. We would appreciate learning promptly if he makes a definite commitment to zo to Pennsylvania. Mr, Rosen had previously submitted an application to Dr. Brink in whose hands the matter rests. However, his unimpressive academic record as well ag the rather poorly defined basis for his expressed interests in agronomic aspects of genetics does not augur well for the success of his @plication here, A Migs Schwariz also applied, but on the basis of her collegiate record 1t was difficult to give her serious considera- tion as a graduate student here unless there are obvioug ex- tenuating circumstances of which there was no evidence in any of the documents received. Sincerely yours, Joshua Lederberg Assist. Prof. cf Genetics. J / /J
