n December 3, 1951 Dr. A. H. Doermann Oak Ridge National Laboratory Box P Biology Division Oak Ridge, Tenn. Dear Gus: Just a random thought~-hoped you might have some information. It occurred to me that there might be something in common between lysogenicity and lysis inhibition. There is a great deal of difference, of course, in many aspects. But would it be feasible to see whether an lysis~inhibited infected cell can be "induced" by mild doses of UV as in the Lwoff effect with lysogenic bacteria? Has this ever been tried? ~—- would you? Sincerely, Joshua Lederberg
