CARNEGIE INSTITUTION OF WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS COLD SPRING HARBOR, LONG ISLAND, N. Y. February 17, 1955 Professor Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics The University of Wisconsin Madison 6, Wisconsin Dear Joshua: I am sorry to hear that you did not have any luck in finding linkage between your material and the markers we sent you. However, we here are not much surprised at this, since we have not discovered any more linkages between the markers we have. It must have been sheer luck that we found the first linkage between tryptophane and cystine-and-methionine. My last letter was sent to you before the lysates were shipped, and at that time it was thought that we would not have enough glass vials to mail everything we wanted to, but a sufficient number of vials was located in various corners so that it was possible to send representetives of each group. We still have a few lysates available, but these are of markers that are closely linked with some you already have, If you would like to try these, we will be glad to ship them to you. With best regards, Sincerely yours, / WRAMEE< MD:af M. Demerec
