Dear Lederberg:

I am very glad to know that you will take part in next summer's
Symposium, The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis will reimburse
you for your out-of-pocket expenses, within the limits noted in my pre-
vious letter, upon receipt of signed travel expense vouchers, which they
will furnish,

The program for this Symposium was prepared by an organizing com-
mittee consisting of people who have spent many years in research with
viruses, Since the emphasis is on the experimental and quantitative
aspects of the problem, an effort was made to cover this phase of the work

and it was necessary to omit many interesting aspects because of time
limitations,

As indicated on the preliminary program, which you have received,
there will be about twenty papers presented. This program also shows the
names of people who have been specifically invited to take part in dis-
cussions, As you know, the discussions are open to all who attend the
meetings, but the organizers felt that we should be certain that key
people would be present; and this year, through the generosity of the
Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, we are able to afford to invite them.
Discussers will not be listed on the final printed program. A few of the
discussers are being requested to prepare a brief manuscript of their
discussion, which will be published in the volume as an independent paper.
The organizing committee feels that your discussion should be included as
a brief paper. Therefore I will appreciate it if you will send me a menu-
seript by June 1. It is proposed that discussions last about 10 or 15
minutes, and that the manuscripts should not exceed 5 printed pa in
length. Enclosed is a copy of the instrustions Tor preperation of mamu-
scripts,
