Your family was kind enough to remind
me that your centenary is just about to ar-
rive and this gives me the very happy
pleasure of renewing my association with you.

As you know the years that I spent at
Wisconsin -~ not to compare with yours --
were among the most productive in my labora-
tory career and I had a most happy and fruit-
ful time there. I have not had any oppor-
tunity to see-you since you retired but I

have had frequent occasion to consult your
historical writings.

I know that you have been deeply inter-
ested in the history of this institution,
nearly since its founding, and so I thought
that the enclosed memento might be particu-
