Dear Dr. Lederberg:

An International Symposium on the subject: "Enzymes:
Units of Biological Structure and Function," will be held
at Henry Ford Hospital, November 1, 2, 3, 1955. Advisory
members of the Program Committee have selected you as a
Speaker who could make a real contribution to this event.

Although not quite all the topics have been determined,
and some of the speakers may find it impossible to come, the
enclosed tentative program will give you an idea of the
nature and scope of the Symposium. The general theme will
be the interrelations between Enzymology and other fields,
for it is evident that progress in each of the individual
fields increases the need for integration. Also, gaps in
our information, which remain as challenges, become quite
evident in a Symposium of this type.

The topic assigned to you on the First Afternoon
Session is descriptive of what is wanted by the Program
Committee. If you can accept, please send me a title for
your presentation, as it is to appear in the program. A
final manuscript will not be required until the Symposium
is held, but should be available then, to facilitate prompt
publication.

The Hospital will reimburse you, on arrival, for
traveling expenses equal to the round trip first class
plane fare from your home to Detroit. You will also re-
ceive an honorarium of $125 in lieu of other expenses.
Your participation is greatly desired, and we hope that
you will find it possible to come. Please inform me of
your decision as soon as possible.
