Dear Dr. Weaver:

Upon the recommendation of I. L. Baldwin, Director of the
Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station, and with the endorse-
ment of E. B. Fred, President of the University, I am transmitting
to you herewith an application by Joshua Lederberg, Assistant

Professor of Genetics, for a grant-in-aid of $7500 for a three-

year period beginning May 1, 1948, to be applied to the research
project GENETICS OF BACTERIA being carried forward in the Depart

ment of Genetics.

Baldwin states:

In connection with this application, Director

tural Experiment Station.

The proposed study is well outlined,

deals with an important problem, and the leader is well qualified

to prosecute work in the field.

that the funds, if allotted, be used.
