I have visited the NIH catacombs, consulted with the local bibliomaniacs, and am pleased to report some success! Although I cannot locate your first summary statement (1948), I have located the report of the April 1949 site visit conducted by Dr. Culbertson for the Bacteriology Study Section. Your 1949 summary sheet contains one sentence (but no priority score). Your 1950 summary statement was twice as long and had a priority score of 191. Please note that your first three years of support were from the Division of Research Grants--grants RG 1445, RG 1445(C), and RG 1445(C2). The fourth year of support was from the National Microbiological Institute via E 72(C3). In your fifth year of support, you asked for, and apparently received, a supplemental award. Also enclosed are your annual progress reports for 1951 and 1952. Your first two applications were reviewed by Bacteriology Study Section. Later ones were reviewed by Microbiology and Immunology Study Section. Page 2 - Joshua Lederberg, Ph.D. Also, please note that in May 1950 the study section was making a recommendation on a committed grant! I hope this information is useful to you. I found it fascinating. Many thanks are due to the archivists of the National Cancer Institute. Kind regards, Sincerely, [fuse rome G.
