STANFORD UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER STANFORD. CALIFORNIA 2257 STANFORD UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE Department of Geveiicc 15; 4197-5052 February 24, 1976 Dr. Louis P. Greenberg Project Officer Diagnosis Branch Division of Cancer Biology and Diagnosis National Cancer Institute National Institutes of Health Bethesda, Maryland 20014 Dear Dr. Greenberg: RE: Contract NO1-CB-43902 As requested by your letter of February 6th, we submit herewita our scientific progress report for the period July 1, 1975 to January 31, 1976. We are involved in a careful reexamination for ourselves of what we believe to be the most cogent options for further investigation, besides the obvious necessity of completing the analysis and inter- pretation of the data represented. We hope, at the time of the site visit, to make more detailed comments, but the most evident challenges are: a) To improve methods for the meaningful elicitation of significant information that may be buried in complex computer tracings; b) To clarify the significance of the association of BAIB excretion with cancer, notwithstanding its occurrence in many normal individuals; c) To continue the examination of polyamines or other indicator compounds if current analyses continue to validate our interest in then. We believe we have performed the central screening task that we had agreed to for the present renewal term of this contract. However, we are in the final stages of data analysis on this series; but hope to have some more information in time for the visit.
