October 26, 1956 Dr. H. Soprowaki 267 Linden Avenue Englewood, N.d. Dear Dr. Koprowski: Thank you for your note of the 24th, which came cn the heals of Dr. Toppings note. I'm afraid I can't make the trip right away: there's too mach going én here that needs looking fter. < hope you didn't misinterpret the position: I just don't want to say "no" (any more than I would"yea") to an unknown quantity. This is probably the worst time to ask you to mke an extra trip, but I will anyhow. I've been meaning to anyhow, cond talking over your work with Dean J.Z. Bowers of our medical school, he urged me to ask if you wouldn't coms to Wisconsin and tell us about it. (Until very recently there has been no genetios at all at the madical school, and we are all interested in generating interest in it and rekated areas; it is hard for me to think of ahything more pertiment than the transplantation studies). We will offer the usual expenses and nominal homorariun. This 1s quite in- clidental to our personal discussion of Wistar; I won't press the Mahomet- mountain anaiogy, if only because the mass-ratios are out of line, I sBiitioned midDecember mainly as that's as far as I can see ahead, However, if much came to facus before then, it might be possible to arrance a trip ap that time. Sincerely, Jose Lederberg
