Thank you so mich for your prompt response to my
inquiry, and for the reprint of your paper given at the
Symposium at Rutgers last year. I was one of the fortunate
ones to be present at that symposium and I especially en-
joyed your paper, So I am doubly glad to have this copy
of it.

Yes, I have been in touch with Dr, Alexander quite
recently and I do not think she has found time to follow up
her work in transformation in the meningococcus. Dr. Allen,
too, paid me a visit several years ago, and wrote to me when
he ended his unsuccessful project. These two are the only
people I know of who have worked along this line with the
meningococcus, Your letter assures me that I have not missed
something along the way and gives me a most helpful over
all view of the field.
