BIONET December 21, 1984 Professor Joshua Lederberg President Rockefeller University 1230 York Avenue New York City, NY 10021 Dear Dr. Lederberg: I have enclosed, for your information, a copy of BIONET'ā€™sā€™ annual progress report, covering the period March 1, 1984 to February 28, 1985. The primary issue which is of concem to us is the anticipated need for some level of fee for service in order to support the anticipated network telecommunications costs for year 3 and beyond. The best solution from a number of standpoints is to request that users pay their own telecommunication costs beginning March 1, 1986. This issue will be a major item for the agenda of our next National Advisory Committee (NAC) meeting. If you have not already done so, please forward to me your schedules for March 1, 1985 - April 15, 1985 so that we can plan the NAC meeting scheduled to take place in this time period. Electronic mail is an excellent way to do this, and I encourage your use of this aspect of BIONET! Sincerely, Man ff Dennis H.
