RE: Introduction to MORALITY AND GENETIC
CONTROL by Joseph Fletcher

Dear Mr. Lederberg:

I am writing with regard to our proposed agreement of August
27, 1973 for your preparation of an introduction to the above
title. Unfortunately we cannot accept the modification you
have added for non-exclusive book rights. Our agreement
specified that we were to have all book rights. This is
standard in any agreement of this type, and we must insist
that Doubleday be given the exclusive book rights for your
introduction.

As your introduction will be an integral part of the work, we
would need assurance that Doubleday, as publishers, would
have the exclusive book rights to it. The exclusive rights
would ensure that the work's impact would not be lessened.

Hopefully we can clear this matter up quickly. I ask per-
mission to delete your modification from our agreement.

We will hold everything in abeyance pending your reply.
