's invitation to join the PCC.

Main main concern is that we do not adopt
self-defeating postures in advocating demo-
cratically unacceptable means of achieving
rational @imits on population growth. Garrett
Hardin's rhetoric has, for example, done just
that kind of harm. (I do not impute this to
your organization or its leadership.) We face
Similar problems in, for example, steering the
course that can relieve enormous misery in
genetic defects without provoking public fan-
tasies about (or crude realities of) genetic
engineering.
