"The Future of Laboratory Animal Resources and Research Programs"
is the theme of a conference to be held Thursday, November 19, 1970,
in the Lecture Room of the National Academy of Sciences building

at 2101 Constitution Avenue, N.W. , Washington, D.C. The
conference is sponsored by the Institute of Laboratory Animal
Resources (ILAR) of the National Research Council.

According to a survey conducted by ILAR (fiscal year 1967), nonprofit
research organizations use more than 33 million warm-blooded
animals annually and spend, on the average, one eighth of their
research money for animal care. This conference will explore

many aspects of the laboratory animal resource programs, including
Current status, types, future needs, and Support. Participating

in the conference will be deans or their selected representatives
from medical and veterinary colleges. A copy of the program is
attached.

If you plan to attend the conference, please give us a call at the
above number beforehand so that we can make arrangements for
your admittance. Although no press room will be maintained, you
are invited to stop by our office in Room 5 if we can be of any
assistance.

Copies of the conference papers will be made available to any
reporters who request them. Proceedings will be published at
a later date.
