Dear Congressman Fogarty:

Dr. Ralph Knutti of the National Heart Institute called me to ask whether
I could contribute a statement to the hearings before your committee
concerning system development on the mechanical heart pump. As I had
taken my own initiative some while ago to urge exactly what the Institute
now proposes, I am in full support of this program.

I regret it would be awkward for me to leave my duties here for a personal
appearance. However, I doubt if I could contribute much more than I have
written down for the statement enclosed.
