Our first meeting has Just concluded. In view of ash the urgency of the CETEX
meeting and impending moon- and Venus-shots we strssed the question of contamina-
tion policy, and have deferred for a next meeting discussion of tangible con-
structive proposals. in any case, we should have needed the time to become better
acquainted with one another and with the general scope of the problem, Some
specific recommendations of the group ere eppended: 1 should stress thet these
were reached unanimously. The strong position that this now represents on the
question of contamination is making me reconsider the possibility of attending

CETEX-- 3 will think ebout this some more and call Odishew If this is called
for.

We are planning our next meeting for March 2), at the JPL in Pasadena. May
t enquire if we can have assurance of travel funds (for coastside sirfares) for
this and perhaps subsequent meetings?

You will shortly receive a more detailed resumé. | am sure we have aroused
@ great deal of practical Interest which, In itself, would more than repay this
trouble and cost of this meeting. In addition we offered some practical advice
on the technique of sterilization of the forthcoming moonshot, and means to have
it properly executed and supervised that may be put to practical effect even during
the next few days. Meanwhile, | was sure you would welcome this interim report.
