I thought you might be interested in the enclosed remarks which I made
to the opening session of the National Cancer Advisory Board this year.

The purpose of the talk was to explain the intent of the amendments
to the National Cancer Act passed by Congress last fall ~- particularly the
requirement for increased research focused on some of the more readily pre-
ventable causes of cancer.

I would be interested in any comments you might have, either specifically SL
on this statement, or more generally with respect to priorities in government
programs for biomedical research.
